The court will generally not interfere with your decision if you can sort out arrangements for your children yourself. If you cannot come to an agreement, you may wish to attend Family Mediation at the Family Mediation Service, Dublin Road, Belfast. If you need to go to court, we are here to support you and to advise you about residence and contact orders.

We will also be able to advise you on whether maintenance for children is required and whether or not you need to go to the Magistrate’s Court or High Court. You may be able to sign a separation agreement meaning you don't have to go to court.
